GCP Evaluering af øre-EEG apparatet til registrering af hypoglykæmi-inducerede forandringer i EEGet i patienter med type 1 diabetes

Short summary

Electroencephalography (EEG) is an electrophysiological monitoring method to record electrical activity of the brain, reflecting the functional state and metabolism of the brain. The brain is critically dependent on a continuous supply of glucose, and when the glucose level is lower than the metabolic requirements of the brain, brain function deteriorates. Hypoglycaemia in patients with diabetes is associated with characteristic changes in EEG.

This clinical study aims at investigating the feasibility of measuring hypoglycaemia induced changes in the EEG by use of the EarEEG system. The EarEEG system is a novel, non-invasive method for recording EEG using dry-contact electrodes embedded on a customised ear piece.

Description of the cohort

Subjects eligible for this study are adults (age 18-70 years) with type 1 diabetes (duration 5 years or older).

Study subjects will be recruited by advertising (incl. via social medias such as closed Facebook groups) or by personal contact to the subject in the outpatient clinic.

Data and biological material

EEG will be recorded during normoglyceamia and induced hypoglyceamia. To compare the performance of the EarEEG system with the gold standard for EEG measurements, EEG will be recorded by the EarEEG system and conventional scalp electrodes simultaneously.
