Self-reported work ability following tibial shaft fractures treated with intramedullary nailing

Short summary

Tibial fractures are usually treated by intramedullary nailing (golden standard), and is usually seen in younger patients; compared to e.g. hip, wrist and fractures of the spine.

These patients are typically of working age. The impact on self-reported work ability and quality of life (QOL) is currently unknown.

Rationale

The purpose of the study is to investigate/evaluate the self-reported impact on QOL and work ability using a Patient Reported Outcome Measure (PROM) questionaire (Short-Form 36/SF 36 version 1) in patients with tibial fractures treated by intramedullary nailing.

Description of the cohort

- Patients drawn from the Danish Fracture Database with isolated extraarticular tibial fractures treated with intramedullary nailing (AO AO41-A2 + AO 42-A1 - AO 42-C3 + AO 43-A).

- Aged between 18-67 at time of injury/surgery

- In the years 2012-2016

- A minimum of 1 year follow-up

Data and biological material

Questionnaire = SF36 v 1 + questions on: duration of sick leave, Grade of physical strain in job before and after injury
