Validation Study of an Alcohol Component in a New Urine Dipstick

Short summary

The purpose of the study is to validate an alcohol component in a urine dipstick. The study comprises of three different subprojects, where 12 non-pregnant women initially will consume 1, 2 or 4 units of alcohol, respectively. In the following four days after each subproject, the participants will deliver urine and blood samples. These samples will be tested for alcohol and an alcohol metabolite using mass spectrometry and a newly developed urine dipstick. Data is collected and analyzed using REDCap and OPEN analyse. 


Rationale

Today, alcohol intake can be detected in a blood sample, testing for ethanole. The newly developed urine dipstick detects an alcohol metabolite instead of ethanole itself, prolonging the window of detection. We expect the urine dipstick to be able to detect the alcohol metabolite 3 days after intake of only 2 units of alcohol.
