Validation of Nijmegen Cochlear Implant Questionnaire in Danish

Short summary

The Nijmegen Cochlear Implant Questionnaire is often used internationally to evaluate the benefit of a cochlear implant surgery. The questionnaire has recently been translated into Danish, but part of the validation is still missing. This project will consist of a test-retest with the questionnaire to decide the temporal stability. Furthermore, is it necessary to calculate the internal consistency with cronbach's alpha to make it possible to compare internationaly.

Rationale

Studies have shown that cochlear implant (CI) not only have a positive effect on hearing but also a positive effect on the CI-user's quality of life (QoL).

As one of the main goals of the CI-treatment is to improve the QoL it is important to have a valid measure of QoL in CI-users. The Nijmegen Cochlear implant Questionnaire (NCIQ) is originally in Dutch and is designed to measure the health-related quality of life in adult Cochlear implant users. NCIQ has been translated into and validated in other languages like Italian, Spanish and Chinese.

NCIQ has recently been translated into Danish, but part of the validation is still missing. Therefore the aim of this study is to validate the Danish version of the NCIQ.

Description of the cohort

Adult hearing compared who is either on a list to have the cochlear implant surgery or have had the procedure done for more than 1 year ago.
