Communication at community pharmacies between pharmacy staff and older immigrants

Short summary

This study builds on an online qeustionnairy mailed to the participating pharmacies in Denmark. After selling prescription medicine to an older immigrant or relative the pharmacy staffs fill in a short questionnaire about their experience of the communication. The pharmacies are invited to participate in this study through a national network for pharmacy practice. This study is expected to provide knowledge about communication barriers between older immigrants and pharmacy


Rationale

Many older immigrants are depending on interpreting in different health care settings. When picking up their medication at the pharmacy communication barriers can lead to misunderstandings or missed important information about their medication. Misunderstanding about medication can lead to severe medication errors threadning the patient safety. This study investigates the communication between the older immigrants and the pharmacy staff from the staffs' perspective.


Description of the cohort

Costumers picking up medication for patients aged 70 years or older from ethnic minorities


Data and biological material

Communication between the pharmacy staff and the cohort experianced by the pharmacystaff by questionnaires.
